Solent Fuchsia Club,
Annual Show 2007 Summary

Solent Fuchsia Club motif for 2006

As Show Secretary I began to wonder if there was going to be enough support from the members to hold our Annual Show. Like many other Clubs and Societies around the country, I knew the weather was going to be a telling factor.

The number of Entry Forms handed in by midday on the Sunday prior to the Show, were well down compared to past years. This meant that there were less than five days to finally decide whether to go ahead with organising the Show, or heaven forbid, cancel it altogether!

It wasn’t until half way through the afternoon that things began to gather momentum. By late evening I breathed a great sigh of relief, because by then I knew there were enough exhibits to put on a satisfactory Show. On the actual days, we were able to exhibit several more fuchsia plants than the previous two years. All that worry and concern for nothing. Who’d be a Show Secretary?

The Show ‘ran like clockwork’, not only that, we had more members of the public attending than in the three previous years.

The standard of the plants was surprisingly very good. Mr Ralph Burlinson, our chosen judge for 2007, made these comments:

"A very good Show in the difficult year. Especially an excellent entry and standard in the Chase Trophy Class.
Exhibits were mostly clean and tidy and well presented.
As always at Solent, the welcome and hospitality was of top order and excellent stewarding was most appreciated.
Thankyou for inviting me to judge. It was very pleasant."

Plant sales were excellent and the catering staff were more than satisfied with their takings. Even the tombola stall made a modest increase in profit.

All in all, a very satisfactory Show and what’s more – profitable. This means we are able to hold another Annual Show in 2008. We are that confident because it is already arranged to be held at Titchfield Community Centre on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July 2008.

We hope you’ll come along and enjoy the display.

A very happy Show Secretary

PARTICIPANTS AT THIS YEAR’S SHOW

A total of 31 exhibitors contributed no less than 173 exhibits in the 39 classes available. (This was 28 exhibits more than last year).
This was a magnificent response considering the torrential rain and strong winds we experienced just before the Show, otherwise I’m sure the number of entries would have exceeded two hundred.
I must admit I was seriously encouraged by your efforts at this year’s event, so I’m looking foreword to see what the membership will manage to display at our next Show in July.

Let’s hope it’s a bit drier though!

Sid Ellis, Show Secretary
